Profile of Shoichi Inoue Japanese architectural historian, scholar of customs and manners, and director and professor of the International Research Center for Japanese Studies. Biography Born in Kyoto City in 1955. Completed a master's course at the Kyoto University Graduate School of Engineering. Specializes in architectural history, design theory, and customs and manners history. After serving as an assistant at the Kyoto University Institute for Research in Humanities, he joined the International Research Center for Japanese Studies in 1987. He has been a professor there since 2002. His numerous works include "The Birth of the Hearse," "The Myth of Katsura Imperial Villa," "The Theory of Beauty," and "Hate for Kyoto."
