Call for applicants
For the third edition of the Kyoto Happiness Awards, we are looking for applicants in the “Society and Education” and “Sports and Culture” categories. We will support and the works of individuals and organizations who dedicate themselves to the increase of happiness and to the greater good of society. We look forward to receiving your applications.

Application Criteria
(1) Kyoto Happiness Award in the “Society and Education” category

Individuals or organizations whose work is recognized as having contributed to the positive development of their local communities
-
Individuals or organizations who have, through education, contributed to the wellbeing of the people of Kyoto prefecture or have contributed to enriching people’s lives and their personalities.

Individuals or organizations who, through solidary and charitable actions, contributed to the welfare of the people of Kyoto prefecture.
Such actions include, but are not limited to:

Volunteer rescue work in natural disasters sites
-
Fundraising in public places
-
Volunteer work in canteens for children in need
-
Working for the revitalization of shopping arcades
-
Welcoming students for workplace experiences and internships
-
Regular visits to elderly care facilities
-
Assuring the safety of local children and traffic security
-
Forest conservation activities
-
Conservation of local endangered species, flora and fauna
-
Engagement surrounding corporate social responsibility
-
Industry-academy partnerships with local universities
-
Long-term participation in PTAs and local community organizations
-
Active participation in local governments and governing entities leading to local development, etc.
(2) Kyoto Happiness Award in the “Sports and Culture” category
-
Individuals or organizations who have made a substantial contribution to a specific academic field or to a technological advancement
-
Individuals or organizations who have made a positive impact to the development and promoting of local culture or the local art scene.

Individuals or organizations who have contributed to the physical and mental wellbeing of the people of Kyoto prefecture through sports.
Such actions include, but are not limited to:
-
Supporting and/or sponsoring a local athlete or organizing competitions
-
Encouraging youth development in the field of sports, cultural activities and arts
-
Volunteering for organizations promoting sports for the youth
-
Engaging in activities increasing Kyoto prefecture’s visibility on an international scale
-
Sustaining local traditions and practices
-
Promoting the development of new media arts (cinema, animation, manga)
-
Conservation of urban landscapes, buildings with historical significance and ruins
-
Supporting and promoting the development of performing arts (music, theater, dancing), etc.
About the Award
Each year, the selected winner for each award category will receive a prize money of ¥1,500,000
The application process
The applicants may recommend their actions or the actions of another party.
Application period
Tuesday July the 1st 2025 to Tuesday September the 30th
Selection Process
The award will be decided by a selection committee consisting of experts (corporate executives, etc. will not be included in the selection committee)
